Date: June 29-30

Location: Mt. Koya - Buddhist Temple

On the rail up to Mount Koya...what? You thought just because we climbed Mt Fuji, we were going to climb EVERY mountain in Japan?
The entrance to the temple where we stayed en route to becoming honorary buddhist monks for the night   There is supposed to be a really cool mandala in the sand that represents Amida Buddha. Only the Head Priest is allowed to draw the mandala, and if anything happens to it while he is gone, the rest of the temple must either call him to fix it, or wait until his return.
The temple grounds   Enjoying a cup of tea in our room...yes you can see the whole room in this picture, and no, there are no beds.
The temple provided us with Yukata, a light cotton kimono which is kind of, but not quite like a bathrobe. Here is Josh in his with the paper walls of our room closed behind us.

Another cup of Tea with Andy, Michelle, Mikey (red shirt) and Mike (white shirt)

Are you confused yet?

Due to our extensive buddhist training, we were able to master the ancient buddhist art of "The Force" in just one night.
Michelle and Josh, in true buddhist spirit, joined the light side, but Mikey tried to abuse his powers.   Mike pondering whether he ought to correct Josh's Buddhist light saber Technique
The student challenges the sensei...   ...and gets schooled. Luckily, since the Buddhists don't believe in taking life, No Josh's were harmed in the making of this photo
Andy, Mikey, and Kentaro. Kentaro is actually a monk in training, and a student, and spoke perfect english. When we arrived, he was a typical monk in his robes. As we were leaving the next morning, he was in street clothes and had a bandana nicely folded in his back pocket. Andy wanted a picture, and it was Kentaro who flashed the West Side.   Andy and Michelle standing in the middle of a graveyard.
This is the biggest graveyard in Japan with an uncountable number of graves. Last guess placed the number at around half a million, with more people wishing to be buried there all the time   Another cool grave...I want to be buried in Japan
