Hamer Families  in Lancashire

According to our subscriber, Mary Lou, the 1881 UK census lists 6368 Hamers of various spellings (Hamer, Hamor, Hamar), 3351 of whom were in Lancashire.

Andrew Hamer provided this concise account of the history of the Hamer surname . He tells us that there was  a manor called Hamer near Rochdale and he also reports that there are around 90 Hamers of various spellings in the current Manchester phone book.
